Kakki reservoir located about 20kms away from
Pathananmthitta is a tourist’s delight.Kakki Reservoir can put you in the mood to
simply amble aimlessly in the forest or maybe take a boat ride in this
beautiful artificial lake. Set in the sylvan background of the Western Ghats,
this reservoir is one of the three that are located in Pathanamthitta District
in Kerala.
Kakki Reservoir is nestled in the Pathanamthitta
Reserve Forest, very close to the Western Ghats. These forests that surround
the reservoir are inhabited by elephants, tigers, deer, monkeys and a variety
of bird life. Kakki Reservoir is about 50 kilometers from Chittar town.
Kakki Reservoir was built in 1966 as part of the
Sabarigiri Hydroelectric Project. The lake is one of the tributaries of the
Pamba and was created when Kakki and Anathode dams were built.
Kakki Reservoir offers trekking, boating and a
jaunt into the deep forests where one can spot wild animals and exotic birds.
The Forest Department of Kerala has launched an ecotourism project in the Kakki
Reservoir that takes folks on a forest tour and boating in the dams.
Cloud-walks, treetop walks, jungle huts and a trekking package will also
feature soon in this project.
